About American Legion Riders Chapter 202

American Legion Riders Chapter 202 is the motorcycle-riding arm of Post 202. It's a place where Legionaires can share not only their common interests in the military, but also their interest in riding. Read on for more information on how you too can wear the American Legion Riders vest!

The American Legion Riders is a national organization, closely affiliated with the American Legion, that emerged in the 1990s, and today has thousands of chapters across the country. If you’ve spent any time around biker or veterans events, chances are you’ve seen an ALR vest on someone. Today, ALR chapters have performed charitable work, and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, for children’s hospitals, schools, veterans’ homes, severely wounded servicemembers, and scholarships. Through the annual national Legacy Run, Legion Riders support the Legacy Scholarship fund, providing scholarships to children of servicemembers killed since September 11, 2001. In addition, the ALR conducts community events and rides to bring greater awareness to veterans’ needs and to motorcycle safety.

ALR Chapter 202 is East County’s own chapter of the American Legion Riders. Housed in the historic Brentwood Veterans Hall, ALR Chapter 202 is not a “motorcycle club,” but rather a veterans service organization made up of motorcycle riders. Currently, we’re searching for new members from the motorcycle-riding community, and for more business supporters in the East County area.

Biker-friendly Business Owners & Managers— we need your support! Let your customers know about ALR Chapter 202 (membership criteria are listed below). Monetary donations are also welcome and are tax-deductable. Your financial support will help us support veterans and active duty military in need. Donors of $50 or more will receive a certificate suitable for framing that forever associates the subject business or individual with American Legion Riders Chapter 202. Donors of $200 or more will receive the same, but in the form of an engraved brass and wood plaque.

Membership in the Chapter is easy. To join us, a rider must:

1. Own a bike or trike capable of freeway speeds (any make);

2. Be a member of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion, or the Legion Auxiliary (that is, you must be a military veteran, or have a spouse, parent, or grandparent who had military service);

3. Demonstrate safe riding skills on a Chapter ride, and be voted in by the membership;

4. Pay an initiation fee of $75 and annual dues of $10.

Successful completion of the above earns a rider the right to wear the coveted American Legion Riders Chapter 202 patch on the back of their vest or jacket. Patches are presented at no cost to the new member at the American Legion Post 202 monthly meeting. Interested riders are welcome to attend a Chapter meeting, held monthly at 6:30pm at 757 First Street in Brentwood always on the day after the Post 202 monthly meeting, that is, on the Thursday following the second Wednesday of each month.

For more information on our organization, to inquire about membership, or to arrange a corporate donation, please contact the chapter president, Ernest Luckhardt, at (925) 550-6503, esixtus@hotmail.com, or any of our officers.
